The
Campus Ministry Office and the
School Minister serve
the students, faculty, staff, and administration of Bishop McDevitt providing
pastoral care, promoting Catholic values, and strengthening their faith-life
through the reception of the sacraments, the celebration of the liturgy, and the
planning of spiritual activities. Working together with the entire school
community, the School Minister strives to assist each individual in living the
Gospel message – a message that will enrich all daily activities and allow them
to deepen their personal relationship with God, in and through Jesus Christ.
In order to address these spiritual needs, the Office schedules certain events,
in which all are encouraged to participate.
They include:
MASS:
celebrated in
the Chapel.
SACRAMENT OF PENANCE:
available from any
priest on the faculty upon
request. Special Penance Services with individual confessions are planned
during the Advent and Lenten
Season, as well as during annual class retreat days.
RETREATS: A mandatory day of spiritual reflection
and renewal is scheduled yearly for each grade level,
usually at an off-campus sight. In addition, upperclassmen are eligible to
attend “Kairos” retreats
at different times during the school year. (Seniors, for their own
spiritual benefit, must make a retreat
day in preparation for Graduation.)
FAITH INTERVIEWS:
Each student will meet with one of the members of the
Campus Ministry Team in an attempt to encourage personal growth in their
Christian identity and to help discern the direction that God is leading each of
them.
SCHOOL LITURGIES:
Scheduled at least monthly throughout the school
year, various liturgical
celebrations are planned to enhance the spiritual life of the entire community
and to keep it connected with
the life of the Church.
ANOINTING OF THE SICK:
The Sacrament of Healing is available, upon
request, to the seriously ill, to those preparing for surgery, and to those
battling with serious, chronic diseases.
SPIRITUAL COUNSELING:
is available for those seeking guidance
and wishing to discuss matters of faith or other
related concerns.
PRO-LIFE ISSUES:
We promote attitudes of respect for human life in all
its stages and for one’s gift of sexuality. (Students
are invited to attend the annual “March for Life” in
Washington, DC.).
PEER MINISTRY:
offers many opportunities for students
to use their gifts to advance the spiritual works of
the school. Presently, committees assist in
Liturgical Planning, Respect Life Activities, and
Service Involvement.
VOCATIONAL DISCERNMENT: helps young people
to understand the meaning of vocations and encourages them to actively pursue a
life dedicated to Jesus Christ and serving the Church as a
priest, deacon, religious sister, or religious
brother.
