Journals

"No man was ever great without divine inspiration."

Cicero

The Journal assignment is for the purpose of reflection and self-introspection.  It's use is to grow in awareness of one's person.

For one never knows who one is unless one is aware of their inner thoughts and feelings.  Self-awareness is the greatest gift one can give to oneself.  It's goal is the growth of the human person on all levels of being.

Some assignments appear below while others are hyperlinks to .PDF files.  I'm looking for the quality of the reflection not necessarily the quantity.  Due dates will be given in class.

All journal responses will be kept strictly confidential unless the responses show a tendency towards harm or injury to oneself or the possibility of harm or injury to others.

You will need Adobe Reader to view the .PDF files.

Journals for Life ~ Journal #1

The Invisible Journal Writer

  • If you could be invisible for two hours, what would you do during that time? Why?

Trading Places

  • If you could trade places with anyone in the world for one day, who would it be? Why? What would you do?  Why? Would you be glad to return to being you?  Why or Why not?

Travel by Pen

  • In your mind, go to your favorite place in the entire world. Describe it in your journal.  What does it look like?  What do you see?  What sounds and smells are around you?  What do you feel when you are in this place?  Why is this your favorite place?

Playing in the Sand

  • If you were sitting on a sandy beach, with all the time in the world, what would you build in the sand.  Why?

Dear President

  • Write a letter to the president of the United States.  What key social problem would you like the president to take action on - homelessness, abortion, violence, poverty, or some other issue?  What key world problem would you like the president to look into - famine in Africa, unrest in the Middle East, global neglect of the environment, or some other situation?

Time Travel

  • Imagine yourself ten years from now.  What will you be doing?  Where will you be living?  How will your life have changed?  What will you have accomplished?  How will you have made a difference in the life of others?
