DESCRIPTION

An authentic study of Sacred Scripture is the response of the faithful to God’s presence in the written word and in the lives and drama of the characters and stories of both the Hebrew Scriptures and the Christian Scriptures.

A knowledge and perspective of Sacred Scripture is indispensable for understanding the nature and purpose of the Church. Sacred Scripture records the accomplishments of the past, but also sets the pace and gives direction for the future through study, prayer and personal reflection.

This course will bring the student to an awareness of revelation, the people and culture through which this revelation unfolds.

As Catholic Christians, it is imperative that we know the writings of the Bible because the Hebrew Scriptures prepare for the coming of the final revelation of God – the Word of God – Jesus Christ. And, Christian Scriptures reveal the mystery of the Christ living among us and the establishment of His Church and the Kingdom of God.

Since we are a Catholic School with a Catholic identity, history and culture, it is important for people of all faiths to understand our sacred tradition and writings.

REQUIRED TEXTS:

REQUIRED CLASS MATERIALS:

  • Instructor’s Handouts and Notes
  • Loose leaf paper
  • Notebook (any variety)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 1) THREE TESTS PER QUARTER
  • 2) PROJECT/RESEARCH PAPER PER QUARTER

The above constitutes 60% of your Quarter Grade.

  • 3) QUIZZES = 20% of the Quarter grade
  • 4) HOMEWORK/CLASS WORK = 10% of the Quarter Grade
  • 5) JOURNAL ASSIGNMENTS = 10% of the Quarter Grade
